SJIOBA Sports Fest 2024 
GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

Background

  1. The Sports Fest 2024 is organised by the SJIOBA with the following objectives:

  2. It gives ex-students the opportunities to come together in a sporting event and to foster esprit de corp among ex-students.

  3. It continues to cultivate a sporting culture that ex-students experience in their time in SJI – ie. Promoting good physical being, mental being and emotional being for general wellbeing and social integration.

 

Date, Time and Venue of Event

  • Date: Saturday, 7 September 2024

  • Time: 1pm – 6pm

  • Venue: SJI Field and Indoor Sports Hall

 

Sports Competition

The following sports will be organised:

  • 7 v 7 Football (maximum 12 teams)

  • 5 v 5 Touch Rugby (maximum 12 teams)

  • 3 v 3 Basketball (maximum 12 teams)

  • Badminton (mixed tournament) – individual (maximum 12 players)

  • Badminton (mixed tournament) – doubles (maximum 12 pairs)

  • Pickleball (mixed tournament) – individual (maximum 12 players)

  • Pickleball (mixed tournament) – doubles (maximum 12 pairs)

  • Tennis (mixed tournament) – individual (maximum 12 players)

  • Tennis (mixed tournament) – doubles (maximum 12 pairs)

 

Format of Play

  1. All sports competition will be conducted in the following methods:

  2. Preliminary Stage: teams will be divided in 2 groups each with a maximum of 6 teams and compete in a round robin

  3. Knock-out Stage: The top 2 teams in each group will compete in the semi-finals.

    1. Winner of group A will play Runner-up of group B

    2. Winner of group B will play Runner-up of group A

    3. Winners of the above games will play in the finals and loser of the above games will play for 3rf placing.

  4. The Organising Committee reserve the rights to change the format of play if the numbers of teams/players for each sports is less or more than the numbers planned for the event.

           

Eligibility

  1. All participants must be ex-students of St Joseph’s Institution

  2. Present students in Year 5 and 6 are welcome to participate.

Registration

  1. Registration is through the following link:

  2. For team sports, team captains are to register on behalf of their teams.

  3. Closing date for registration is on Friday, 23 August 2024. Late submission will not be entertained.

 

Registration Fees

The fee for each sport is as follows:

  • 7 v 7 Football / 10 per Team / $100

  • 3 v 3 Basketball / 5 per Team / $50

  • Badminton - Individual / 1 person / $10

  • Badminton - Double / 2 persons / $20

  • Pickleball - Individual / 1 person / $10

  • Pickleball - Double / 2 persons / $20

  • Tennis - Individual / 1 person / $10

  • Tennis- Double / 2 persons / $20

 

Participants may register for more than 1 sports but note that no changes will be made if there is a clash in timing of their events.

Payment Mode

  1. Team sports payment are to be made by the team captain

  2. Payment to be made upon submission of form.

Prizes

  1. Prizes will be awarded to all the top three teams/individuals in each sports.

  2. In the event that there are 4 or less team or participants in each sports, prizes will only be given to the winner of each sports.

 

Protests

  1. In the event of any dispute arising over any participant(s) and/or any team(s), the particular fixture shall be competed under protest, and the Organiser shall determine the matter on receipt of the protest in writing, together with the prescribed protest fees of $50

  2. Protests must be made in writing together with the protest fee and lodged with the Organiser on the spot during the match. In the event of the protest being dismissed, the fee will be forfeited.

  3. The decision arising from any protest shall be final and there shall be no appeal.

 

First Aid And Medical

  1. Participants with medical history are encouraged to seek medical advice before competing in this tournament.

  2. First aid services are available at every venue while ambulances are deployed based on the nature and risk of the sport.

  3. All teams and participants shall be responsible to ensure their own medical coverage, including first aid and personal accident insurance.

 

Supplementary Rules

  1. All teams are urged to participate in the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship.

  2. While all reasonable precautions will be taken, SJIOBA will not be responsible or in any way liable for any death, disability, personal injury, loss of property or any other loss howsoever arising from any cause whatsoever at any time during the course of this Sports Fest.

  3. All participants should refer to the rules and regulations of the individual sports for more detail on each sport.

Attire

  1. All teams in football, frisbee and basketball games must wear a standardised coloured jersey to distinguish themselves from the other team.

  2. In the event of a clash in colours, bids will be provided to one of the teams.

 

Games Jurisdictions

  1. The captains are responsible for the proper control and good conduct of their participants and supporters. If an appeal is made to any of the above persons and it is not heeded, the Organiser reserves the right to take disciplinary action against the team.

  2. In the event of a need for disciplinary action to be taken against any participant or team, the Organising Committee shall decide and impose punishment as it deems fit.

  3. The Organiser may at any time deal with any matters pertaining to inquiries, appeals, others etc. The decision of the Organiser on all matters brought before it will be final.

  4. The Organiser reserve the right to interpret said rules and regulations as they deem fit. In the event of any question or matter arising out of any point which has not been expressly provided for in any of the rules governing this competition, the decision of the Organiser will be final.

  5. The rules and regulations as depicted above are current at the time of printing. The Organiser reserves the right to add, delete and/or vary the said rules and regulations at any time as it deems fit.

Wet Weather

  1. In the event of wet weather before the tournament starts, participants are to continue to report at the respective venue, and wait for further instructions.

  2. A waiting period of about 45 minutes will be observed to ascertain if the tournament can proceed, or a washout declared.

  3. In the event of wet weather during the tournament, participants will assemble at the basement of the ISH. Matches will resume once lightning alert is lifted.

  4. If the tournament is truncated due to wet weather, in a worst case scenario, a single knock-out stage or a new format of play will decide the winner of the sport.

  5. Postponement and/or cancellation of the tournament will be informed at the venue by the Organising Committee.
